Elena is an Italian hand weaver, based in Milan, with a background in Design and Arts at the Free University of Bolzano. In 2017, she co-founded 'Neue Serie Handdruck' with Nicola Chemotti, with the aim of reviving the production of screen-printed textiles by a South Tyrolean collective. After four years as an in-house graphic designer for Fornasetti in Milan, Elena heeded the call to materiality and manual labour and moved to Sweden. At the Capellagården School for Craft and Design, she immersed herself in traditional textile crafts.
Elena's focus is on paper yarns, which offer unique textile rhythms and structures, each with its own story. Although paper yarns are typically two-dimensional, weaving transforms them, giving weight and volume to each piece. Her studio in Milan is the frame where curtains, wall hangings, room dividers, mats come together, weaving narratives and imagery that define her work
